A Brief Guide to Generating Traffic to Your Website

Many years ago the idea of having your own website was as something only large corporate companies and technical geeks could have. Fast forward say 15 years on and now nearly anyone who thinks of having their own space on the internet can make it possible.

There are a lot of applications you can use to create your own website, some intuitive others not so friendly to use, some of these website builder applications are expensive others are Free.

No matter which option you chose to create your piece of cyberspace, if you create the best website on the internet you want people to know about it. Just because you have built a website does not necessarily mean that people will come and see it.

With the internet having some 20-30 billion web pages it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd but there are ways of rising above obscurity, so do not become despondent. Hopefully with this article you will see some strategies that you can use to attract the web traffic you need to make your website a success;

There are three popular methods for generating web traffic, which strategy you use will depend on how fast you want to get traffic.

Pay Per Click

Back Links

Search Engine Optimisation

Pay Per Click

If you're looking to get traffic instantly then this can be achieved using a pay method sometimes called Pay Per Click (PPC).

PPC is a very attractive model for generating traffic quickly, it involves the advertiser placing adverts on a host website with targeted selected keywords. When someone clicks on your ad, they go directly to your site or landing page. The downside to this approach is that it can become quite expensive. The best PPC advertising programs are Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing.

Back Links

Sometimes called inbound links, backlinks are the lifeblood of Search Engine Positioning. By having good backlinks to your website you have a better chance to increase the overall search engine rank of your website. There are many ways to get backlinks, including article marketing directory submission and link exchange.

Search Engine Optimisation

If you take the approach of wanting to grow your business with organic traffic then using the search engine optimisation method will give you good traffic over a period of time. This method works best if you can provide fresh content with relevant keyword phrases. Search Bots love new content and if they see fresh content this will get your site noticed and you begin to move steadily up the search results page.

In conclusion it does not matter which strategy you use the important thing is that if you at least try one method, you will begin to see visitors to your website. I've tried all three and they have helped me in my quest for generating traffic to my website.

How To Get Red Hot Targeted Traffic To Your Website - Part 2

Options for advertising sources you need to consider.

Once you do your keyword research, you now know what people are looking for, and the exact phrases they're using. You also know how much competition you have for that keyword. You're looking for relatively high search volume, and low competition. You can now position your keyword advertising right in front of them.

Posting Ads Where Potential Customers Are Looking.

There are a number of places and techniques available for you to use when developing a marketing strategy and budget. Here are a few to consider.

PPC - Pay Per Click ads.

If you visit Google and put in a search for "Dog Training" you'll be directed to a page with several links on it. The links on the center of the page highlighted in pink, are sponsored ads that people like you have purchased to put them at the top of that page. Links below that are keyword term searches that Google indexed based on popularity and position. The small ads on the right side of the page are PPC ads. As an advertiser, you would set up an account at Google, or Yahoo, or MSN and build ads based on your keyword research. When anyone clicks on that ad, then the advertiser is charged a certain amount of money "per click." Based on the popularity of that keyword, you'll "bid" on that phrase. If you follow my advice in the previous article, you'll be able to find low bid keywords for.05 to.25 that will get your PPC ads on the first page. Then you'll set a budget to fund your ads.

Article Marketing.

There are numerous article submission sites on the internet. When you submit well-written articles on relevant topics, you still need to make sure that you do keyword research before hand. When people search for keywords, then articles pop up on the search page depending on the term and it's ranking on the search engines. In order to do article marketing effectively, you need to write well, use good grammar and punctuation, and you need to write 2 articles per day for 90 - 180 days to get your content recognized and indexed on the search engines. The nice part about articles is they're free, and they get indexed on the internet and are available forever! Get some good courses on copywriting and publishing articles.

Blogs and Forums.

If you do an internet search and look for Google Forums, or Yahoo Forums, you will be able to search for your niche market and forums or blogs that talk about your topic. You can post content on blogs and forums with a back link to your site or landing page. The key with any written material is you must not come across as too salesy or pushy. Rely on high quality, usable content and you'll build credibility with your audience.

Social Media.

Facebook is known as the third largest country in the world because of the amount of people that are members. You need to use great caution when advertising on Facebook and guard against just pushing your product to your friends. High quality, user friendly content is the key. The purpose of social media sites is not to sell your product. The purpose of social media advertising is to build relationships so that people will want to follow you and join your list because of the quality and integrity of the information you're offering. Sign up for sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Hub Pages and others.

Social Media PPC.

Just like PPC on the search engines, Social Media sites also offer pay per click advertising that rotates on people's sites. Facebook is a very good place to advertise but again, your keyword research is imperative. It puts your ads on people's pages that have indicated an interest in the kinds of products or services you are offering.

You can advertise in such a way that the marketing actually pays for itself as you use low cost, high demand products that people sign up for. Ideally, your marketing should end up to as close to free as possible.
